Evidence of Work
During this project I had to create a brochure for an underwater hotel in the hopes of getting our teacher interested in visiting if it was real. I then brainstormed a plan and specific interesting features of my hotel. Then, I grabbed a paper and got busy writing and researching needed information for my brochure. Finally, I added drawings just to make the whole thing a little more pleasing to the eye. Content
Ocean Basins: The main ocean basins are the Pacific, Atlantic, Arctic, and Indian. World Ocean: The world ocean is a term all the basins are referred to sometimes because they are all connected. Southern Ocean: The southern ocean is the ocean that surrounds the whole circumference of the world. Density: The density is how much matter is in a given amount of space. Earth's Structure: The Earth is made of four sections the crust (thin, outer layer), mantle (thick almost fluid rock layer), outer core (liquid molten metal), and the inner core (a ball of extremely dense metals suspended in the outer core. Oceanic Crust: The oceanic crust sits lower on the mantle but is made of a dense rock called basalt. Continental Crust: The continental crust floats high on the mantle and is composed of granite. Mid-Ocean Ridges: It's the largest world feature it is a continuous underwater volcanic mountain range. Trenches: Deep depressions in the sea floor. Subduction: This is where one plate slips under another into the mantle and turned into magma. Shear Boundaries: Two plates that move past each other sometimes they get caught up then slip again releasing pressure causing earthquakes. Sediments: There are two types of sediments lithogenous (rock) and biogenous (made from living things). Continental Margin: The continental margin is composed of four sections the continental shelf (the shallowest area nearest to the mainland), the shelf break (this is where the shelf stops and transitions into the slope), the continental slope (this is where the continental plate slopes down towards the sea floor sharply), and the continental rise (the area where sediment has piled up so its a smoother transition to the sea floor). Deep Ocean Basins: This is the abyssal plain the deepest part of the ocean besides trenches. Active Margin: There are lots of volcanoes and earthquakes in these areas. Passive Margin: This is where the continental edge is not a plate boundary. Hydro-thermal Vents: A hydro-thermal vent is a crack on the seafloor where geothermally heated water is expelled. Hot Spot: A hot spot is a plume of hot magma rises from deep in the mantle. Reflection
I really enjoyed this project and being able to be a little bit creative in one of my favorite classes. I worked very efficiently with little to no distractions I breezed through this extremely quickly. I kept a really good pace and stayed focused the whole time. I enjoyed everything about this project but I should've spent more time on the art section because its kind of lacking. Overall, I think I did a pretty good job and I would definitely do this project again if I had the chance. |
